Police stabbed in Bridgewater: hunt for suspect continues Thursday

Police in Nova Scotia are still trying Thursday to locate the man accused of stabbing a Bridgewater Municipal Police officer and assaulting his own spouse. The manhunt has continued since Monday evening.

The wanted man is named Tobias Charles Doucette. He is about 1.87 meters (6 feet 2 inches) tall and weighs almost 100 kg (220 pounds). The 31-year-old has brown hair and green eyes.

He is charged with attempted murder of a police officer and assault on his wife following a domestic violence case that took place Monday night at a hotel in Bridgewater .

The RCMPRoyal Canadian Mounted Policewants Doucette to know that our goal is a peaceful resolution of the situation , Corporal Jennifer Clarke said Wednesday.

Several homes in Bridgewater were evacuated Tuesday night as police search the area. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) say these residents will be notified when it is safe for them to return home.

The police intervened in the hotel Monday around 11 pm following a call reporting domestic violence. According to Bridgewater City Police , Doucette stabbed an officer in the neck and fled.

The man was later seen near the LaHave River. Police say they tried to stop him but stabbed a police dog and fled into a wooded area near Highway 331 in Conquerall Bank. The RCMPRoyal Canadian Mounted Police says he will also have to face charges for that.

The Canadian Armed Forces were also called in to help.

Police are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the RCMP at 1-800-803-7267.
