AMD Announces Radeon Instinct MI100 Coming During Second Half Of 2020

Mark Papermaster, chief technology officer and executive vice president of Technology and Engineering for AMD, announced today that the first CDNA- based graphics card, the Radeon Instinct MI100, will arrive during the second half of this year to bring life to computing equipment from high performance, supercomputers, etc., along with its Zen3 microarchitecture processors.

The CDNA architecture is very profitable for the company, and it is that we could say that it is an RDNA silicon where AMD eliminates the hardware that is not necessary for a graph of this type, such as that which is linked to graphics rasterization, the engines of display and multimedia, and other associated components that otherwise occupy significant amounts of die area. Instead,  AMD takes advantage of this empty space to add fixed-function tensor computing hardware, similar to Tensor cores that incorporate the latest Nvidia graphics based on the Turing graphics architecture.

From the AMD Radeon Instinct MI100, we know that it offers no less than 8192 Stream Processors with a TDP of only  200W, and that is that a Radeon RX Vega 64 or Radeon Instinct MI60 has a TDP of  300W for 4096 Stream Processors. This is thanks to a new and efficient graphic architecture together with the 7nm manufacturing process.
