A few weeks ago Xiaomi was included in a list of companies banned in the United States, one of Trump’s latest decisions. The Chinese brand is not part of the same list as Huawei, so they can continue to use Android and components from American firms, but investments are prohibited. The firm is not happy with this government decision.
They have made the decision to sue the United States for this decision to be included in that list and the veto that has caused that decision.
Xiaomi considers that having been included in this list is something that will cause significant damage to the company. These years we have seen how the firm has grown and has become one of the best-selling brands, being the third in the world after having surpassed Apple, for example. In markets such as India or Spain they are the best sellers with a good market share.
The good news is that the United States only focuses this ban on products such as bracelets or accessories, since the manufacturer does not sell its phones in the American market. So your phone business will continue as normal.
It is certainly an important decision to sue the United States. Although taking into account that there is now a new government and that this previous veto is not something that affects their business too much, it will be necessary to see if they continue with this process or not.
