Tim Sweeney: “Apple is # 3 in gaming revenue and has made none”

Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, launched a poison dart at Apple through his official Twitter account, in which he shared two facts about Apple. The first of them reveals that Apple is the 3rd company in the world that earns the most money from video games, while the second data implies that, despite being the third in earnings linked to video games, it has never developed a game, so that said income comes as a result of the mandatory 30 percent commission that it imposes on all companies that want to bring their games to the Apple Store, so it makes no sense that a company that profits in this way generate more money than the studios themselves or companies at the level of Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.

According to the estimated data, Apple closed Q4 2019 with revenues of 2,887 million dollars, just above Microsoft (2,831M) or Nintendo (2,286M), while above we have Sony (3,879M) and in the first place to the Chinese Tencent with 5.225 million dollars.

It should be remembered that this dispute is linked to the fact that Fortnite players on Apple mobile devices have been excluded because the company with the bitten apple vetoed the game after Epic Games updated it by adding a direct payment gateway that allowed players pay less money for their virtual currencies by not having to pay Apple commissions.
