Opera is starting a new formation with YoYo Games under the name of Opera Gaming.
Internet browser developer Opera has acquired YoYo Games , the team behind the popular game development tool called GameMaker Studio . Thanks to the agreement reached for $ 10 million, Opera will establish a new unit under the name Opera Gaming.
GameMaker Studio is a popular tool offered to indie developers especially for 2D games. The tool allows developers to easily create games for more platforms from a single codebase. Note that some popular games such as Risk of Rain, Undertale and Hyper Light Drifter have been developed using GameMaker Studio .
Opera previously introduced Opera GX in 2019, an internet browser designed for gamers that offers performance-oriented features such as low power usage as well as a network limiter to improve online connections in games. In this sense, we can easily say that the company has entered the game world before. In addition to Discord integration, features such as integration with the Razer Chroma were added to the game-oriented browser later. Opera also announced that the game browser reached 7 million active users per month with an annual growth of 350 percent in December 2020.
Opera Gaming will be brought together with Opera GX and YoYo Games. The company states that the new section will focus on innovations in games, game development and browser fields. How this innovation will be realized is not yet known.
