A youtuber has created a machine that cuts the crust of sandwiches, an arduous engineering task that is far from perfect.
If you are tired of removing the crust from sandwiches before eating them, and you thought that no one would be able to invent the machine that could do this hard work for you, now a YouTuber has managed to create a kind of machine that removes the crust from sandwiches, although it also does other things.
The youtuber Andrew DeGonge has presented a robotic mini guillotine that is capable of eliminating those annoying crusts of our sandwich to leave us what really matters to us. And it is that cutting the crusts of bread is not an easy task, and behind the invention there is a good amount of computing, engineering and many other things.
The machine is made up of an aluminum frame made up of 3D printed parts that are moved around a cutting board using belts and motors. It has a kitchen knife that descends to cut according to previous orders, removing all unnecessary parts of the bread slice.
To build the machine, DeGonge has used a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B and combined it with a Raspberry Pi V2 camera module using Open CV to photograph and analyze the sandwich shape, thus really removing the crusts and not taking the rest of the sandwich ahead. With this, the system can recalculate the rectangle to leave and what to remove with the knife.
Of course, it is not a perfect robot, because although it manages to cut the crust of the sandwich, the user must end up peeling it off manually.
Even so, it is interesting to see these types of inventions that all they seek is to make our lives easier with daily jobs and that other companies have not yet managed to exploit.
