NVIDIA RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 graphics cards are getting seriously hot in Ethereum mining.

In this way, those with a GDDR6X equipped Ampere card such as RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 can control the VRAM temperature. According to the news of Tom’s Hardware, it did not go unnoticed that the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 graphics cards saw a temperature of 110 degrees during Ethereum mining in the tests.
On the other hand, looping the Metro Exodus game on an RTX 3080 Founders Edition at 4K Ultra settings for a few minutes causes the GDDR6X modules to reach a peak temperature of 102 degrees. The maximum temperature for GDDR6X should be 95 degrees here.
The situation changes when DLSS and Ray Tracing are enabled. Playing Metro Exodus at the same settings, the RTX 3080 reaches a maximum temperature of 94 degrees. Additionally, GDDR6X temperatures reach 100 degrees when tested on a Cyberpunk 2077 and an RTX 3090 Founders Edition with DLSS and Ray Tracing enabled.
When mining on both the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090, it seems that the GDDR6X modules peaked at 110 degrees and the GPU lowers itself drastically to compensate for the rather high VRAM temperature. It is pointed out that there are ways to lower GDDR6X temperatures that cause the 3080 and 3090 only to be throttled when the temperature reaches 110 degrees. It is a matter of curiosity how these high temperatures will affect the cards in the long term. From Nvidia’s point of view this seems to be within tolerance, given that GDDR6X memory runs at 100 degrees or less in the game. 24/7 mining with memory working at 100-110 degrees is likely to cause premature card failure.
