The OnePlus 8 Pro camera has rather strange “X-ray” functionality as it is able to see through thin plastic and other materials . This is achieved through the camera with color filter.
Ben Geskin demonstrated this in a number of examples on Twitter and has even uploaded a video to YouTube to better demonstrate this feature by placing the Oculus Quest drivers under the OnePlus 8 Pro camera effect.
Another example includes the Apple TV box, which allows you to appreciate many details of the interior of that box.
This feature is not particularly useful but it is still quite curious. The “magic” is that it uses infrared light to penetrate certain materials, such as thin plastic.
The main purpose of this camera is to take pictures with filters applied by hardware, instead of using software like other smartphones. It’s one more of the four cameras the OnePlus 8 Pro comes with, and it’s not exactly the most useful – although now we’ve found a new utility for it.
