It appears that the game launcher from the Epic Games Store is making some Ryzen processors run cooler. This information comes from Reddit and was verified by Hot Hardware.
According to the page, the application seems to continue to use CPU resources even when it is running in the background, this causes some Ryzen CPUs to raise the temperature up to 20 ° C, and that without any games running.
The launcher seems to increase CPU usage on certain threads, which affects the temperature of the entire processor.
Multiple users have shared their experience which appears to confirm what the original poster has discovered:
Looked at mine, 5900x – 64C while just browsing youtube… closed epic games launcher, drops 20 degrees.
Mine is the exact same. 5900x.
Sat watching youtube while I download Cyberpunk (finished). Friend sends me a link to this thread, I look at my temp, 62, Close EGL, down to 42….
ok my 2600 was idling at 46 watching youtube, i thought that’s not too bad, i exited Epic launcher and it immediately dropped to 38. Edit, it’s gradually dropping even more, only 35 now.
Ryzen 5 1600 here and mine dropped from 52 to 44 almost instantly.
For now this was not confirmed by Epic Games, but it seems that the problem is real as there are several users who confirm this problem. Luckily, it is something that can be solved with an update and these discoveries serve for the company to take action on the matter.
