Even before the Radeon RX-6000 series based on the new RDNA-2 architecture, which will be launched in the consumer market on November 18th in the form of the Radeon RX 6800 and 6800 XT and rounded off on December 8th with the 6900 XT will be served on November 16, HPC professionals with the Radeon Instinct MI100 (“Arcturus”) based on cDNA.
CDNA should be presented in two weeks
After the BIOS files of the upcoming professional GPU from AMD for high-performance computing, so-called High-Performance Computing ( HPC ) and ML acceleration made the rounds on the Internet in February of this year, the manufacturer, in the person of its CTO, Mark Papermaster, opened up The Dell EMC High-Performance Computing Online Event confirms that CDNA will be released in the second half of the year.
At the end of July, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su the professional CDNA solutions again and more specifically for the end of the year. Now everything should go very quickly, as the Russian website 3DNews.ru reports. Accordingly, AMD plans to officially present its new Instinct product family, consisting of a total of three HPC / ML accelerators, on November 16.

In addition to the flagship, the Radeon Instinct MI100 with 8,192 ALUs, the portfolio will also include the Radeon Instinct V640 and Radeon Instinct V620 accelerators. The Russian website claims to have taken this information from the October edition of the “AMD Corporate Identity Book”.
Even if this has not yet been officially confirmed by AMD, CDNA is probably based on the long-serving GCN architecture, which is strong in computing calculations, but rather poorly in games for today’s conditions.
As part of the Financial Analyst Day 2020, AMD announced that CDNA would be further developed independently of RDNA and that its second edition should appear as cDNA 2 by 2022.
