Since its announcement just a few days ago, much has been said about the Unreal Engine 5 and its potential to create new generation graphics with greater ease than previous versions of this well-known graphics engine. Such is the ambition of Epic Games that one of its representatives affirms that the objective is to achieve photorealism.
Nanite and Lumen are two of the most outstanding new technologies in Unreal Engine 5“We are looking for photorealism with Unreal Engine 5,” said Quentin Staes-Polet at IndianExpress. “The new graphics engine will save us a lot of time and at the same time,” continues the general manager of Epic Games in India and Southeast Asia, “brings us a little closer to the most realistic simulation.”
As we already told you in our special about everything you should know about Unreal Engine 5 , this new graphic engine makes use of technologies such as Nanite , which allows developers to achieve this goal of photorealism in a more effective way. “With Unreal Engine 5 you can use cinema-quality 3D assets at 4K cinema and insert them into the graphics engine to work with them. This is an incredible change because it saves you a lot of time and also brings photorealism to the video game world in the future”.
Quentin Staes-Polet has also had words for Lumen lighting technology , which he claims is “a great step forward” compared to what is seen with raytracing. For the past few weeks at Epic Games they have not hesitated to show off the power of their new graphics engine, with video presentations showing, for example, how realistic skies are created in Unreal Engine 5 .
