The 3000-year wait has finally come to an end: Square Enix has announced Neo: The World Ends with You
Remember The World Ends With You? This Nintendo DS classic was released by Square Enix and is so far fondly remembered by those who played it. Its curious gameplay, striking aesthetic, and entertaining narrative allowed it to create a place in the hearts of the fans. They were always asking for a follow-up to TWEWY, but it didn’t seem like Square was very interested in returning to this property. The closest thing was to give them a world within Kingdom Hearts. Now, SE has surprised the world by announcing a follow-up to this Japanese gem.
Interestingly, this game seems to be a prequel and its name is Neo: The World Ends With You. The premise does not seem to be that different from the first installment, a group of teenagers are caught in the Reaper’s Game and must fight to survive using magic pins. The funny thing is that most of the characters are additions to the original cast, like Rindo, the new protagonist, while some others (like Sho Minamimoto) if belonged to his first installment. His place on the timeline will be a conversation piece for fans of this brand.
Unlike the first installment, this one will take place in a 3D environment through which you can run and face monsters. It has slight similarities to titles like Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. Its performance appears to need some improvement, but TWEWY fans will be happy that their franchise is making a comeback after an extended absence.

If you’re excited, this game will launch for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in winter 2021. With this and the arrival of the anime, there’s no question Square is betting on TWEWY.
