Almost two years after Metro Exodus, the franchise is already preparing its next installment for Xbox Series and PlayStation 5
Almost two years ago, the third installment of Metro was released and received positive reviews, although they were slightly lower than the other installments. Exodus had a very successful launch and sold a large number of units. It’s not the first time that this franchise has seen positive results, as both 2033 and Last Light turned out to be brilliant releases for 2K. Due to these results, 4A Games, the Russian developer in charge of this brand, has already announced that they are working on their next installment.
And yes, it will be a first person shooter title for the new generation consoles. It may also be released on Xbox One and PlayStation, but this is not yet known. Exodus will also have a free update to work better in the new generation.
This was confirmed by 4A Games, which are celebrating ten years since the release of their first installment. Along with this, they have launched a curious timeline in which you can see what they have been doing since they launched in 2033. And this concludes with the comment that, now that they belong to a larger corporation, they are already working on the next Metro title.
The Metro franchise is an interesting one, as it is the only video game saga that feels properly “Russian”. If you’ve ever interacted with a text like Crime and Punishment, you know that Russian authors are brilliant when it comes to depicting decadence and misery. This feeling of pain and despair is, for very complex reasons, very well captured by authors from this country. However, very few video games have had the opportunity to capture this energy. Only Pathologic and Metro manage to capture this essence.
