Daedalic Entertainment has released a teaser for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, the new video game based on the work of JRR Tolkien that will arrive in 2021 for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
Taking advantage of the video, the study has published new information about the game in statements to the IGN portal. As his name suggests, the charismatic Gollum will be the protagonist of an adventure in which stealth and a narrative focused on decision making will prevail. All this, of course, under a setting typical of one of the most beloved fantasy literary sagas in the world.
Martin Wilkes, a lead designer at Daedalic, has stated that the game “mixes stealth with vertical climbing parkour.” At the same time, the creative has compared it to Prince of Persia: “It is not a fighting game, but Gollum will be able to eliminate enemies stealthily, although it will not be easy and it will have risks. We want players to weigh these encounters; Gollum’s strengths they focus on their cunning and not combat. “
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be a different game than what we are used to in titles based on the saga in which action tends to prevail. Gollum will not use weapons, although he can throw objects at enemies, and take advantage of “the abilities of special allies”, which Wilkes says are characters that will be familiar to us and who will play small roles in the story, although in some very important cases.
As they have already shown in adventure games like Deponia, the narrative is important for the study, and that is where the decision-making comes into play. Players will have to choose between the answers provided by Gollum’s personality, as well as Smeagol’s. The path we follow based on the answers can influence animations, landscapes, and some dialogues.
