According to the gameawards.net website, The Last of Us Part 2 is the first game in the history of the industry to receive 300 GOTY or Game of the Year awards. That, as some of you may be wondering, makes it hold the most awarded/awarded game title in history.
The online tracker takes into account the Game of the Year awards from the media and the awards chosen by the readers. With the union of both, The Last of Us Part 2 is right now with the ostentatious figure of 300 GOTY awards, surpassing the next with a very high figure of 280: The Witcher 3.
This figure places the game, despite the immense quality of the games released in 2020, well above other titles that are just behind, such as Hades and Ghost of Tsushima; with 64 and 63 awards respectively. Behind these, with similar figures, are Cyberpunk 2077 with 35, Animal Crossing New Horizons with 28 and Final Fantasy VII Remake with 27.
Now, The Last of Us Part 2 is with others of the most awarded in history, such as the aforementioned The Witcher 3 , God of War with 260, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with 258 and even its prequel, The Last of Us, with 257. Already last year it managed to surpass the CD Projekt game in prizes chosen by the readers, but now it has also done so in the media.
Through this link you can check the 10 most awarded games in history , with Dragon Age Inquisition as the bottom of the table. Although there are also other interesting data, such as the total prizes per year or the GOTY prizes given in each year with at least 1.
But not all is good news for The Last of Us Part 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales was ahead of The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima in sales in less time.
