During the Game Awards, Striking Distance revealed The Callisto Protocol, a science fiction, horror, and survival game that will not only be based on the PUBG universe but will also have an air of Dead Space.
In 2019, Glen Schofield, former head of Visceral Games and creator of Dead Space, announced the creation of the Striking Distance studio and, at the time, confirmed that his first game would be an original narrative based on the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) universe.
However, after almost a year since its announcement, Glen Schofield reaffirmed in an interview with IGN that The Callisto Protocol will take place in the same universe as PUBG. Additionally, he added that the game is set 300 years after the events of the Battle Royale.
“The funny thing is, I came up with this story when I first went to meet the PUBG folks, started talking about The Callisto Protocol, and created a study. I introduced them to this game, and what we did was fit it into the PUBG story. “
The developer also provided more details on their upcoming game: “I want The Callisto Protocol to be the scariest game on next-gen platforms… it’s hard to get creative and talk about it, but from what I heard, Dead Space was one of the most terrifying games of their generation, and I want to do the same for the new one ”.
The Striking Distance title has an estimated release sometime in 2022, so we will have to arm ourselves with patience.
