Only the last Call of Duty has managed to put itself above Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in sales
Respawn Entertainment has grown from a studio in troubled waters to Electronic Arts’ biggest sensation. Two years ago, Respawn was the studio for Titanfall, which had just disappointed with the results of its sequel. Not because of the critics (who loved the game) but because of its “low” sales. For EA, selling five million units was a reason to organize a continental harakiri. However, then Apex Legends happened and the developer went on to increase its value a lot. Now, with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, this company is worth more than ever.
These figures come from the NPD, an economic group in charge of monitoring game sales in the United States. This list counts the results of the 12 months prior to October 2020. As this list only counts complete sales, microtransactions have no place in these results. And if you look at the 2020 table, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is only below Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Yes, they even managed to surpass the titanic Animal Crossing: New Horizons (although Nintendo does not report digital sales). None of the other gigantic games of the year have been able to face Fallen Order.
Of course, the Fallen Order figures were achieved many months ago. This, added to the sales of games like Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, can lead to the second price of Star Wars disappearing.
It is not known what Respawn Entertainment is working on at this time. The idea of a Fallen Order sequel is probably up for discussion or perhaps adding content in the form of DLC. Still, this study has earned the respect of many for refusing to exploit its workers.
