It’s no secret that making large-scale games isn’t cheap at all. Titles like God of War, Grand Theft Auto V, and Red Dead Redemption cost their developers hundreds of millions of dollars. Games of this magnitude are very striking due to their high production values. Another of these was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,(around $80 million) which was one of the largest-scale games developed in Europe. After its success, this one only guaranteed that its next installment is even bigger. That is why Cyberpunk 2077 will require even more budget.
According to the most recent corporate report from CD Projekt Red, the company has spent PLN 448,513 (or $ 121 million USD) on development projects as of June 30. This includes both Cyberpunk 2077 and its multiplayer mode. If you know the costs of other games of this magnitude, it may seem a bit strange. After all, $ 121 million is far less than what was spent on a game like Grand Theft Auto V. It is not so uncommon for a title to end up costing twice as much, with titles costing more than $ 200 million.
It happens that, as CDPR is a Polish company, they spend much less on the wages of their workers (perhaps this is why the exploitation charges). They still need to spend a lot before its launch, so we will see how much these figures grow.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on November 19, 2020 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
