Toshihiro Nagoshi is the creator of Yakuza and the mind behind the multiple stories and characters that are told in a saga with almost 15 years behind him. Until recently, Nagoshi combined his position as Producer of the Yakuza saga with that of COO of SEGA, since it placed him as one of the key pieces in the board. Today, following a report detailing the changes to the board and its divisions, Nagoshi is leaving his position as COO (Head of Operations).
The fact is that this does not mean the goodbye of Nagoshi from SEGA, in fact it may even be something that he himself has asked to focus on the Yakuza saga, which is enjoying better health and popularity around the world as we have seen with Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Toshihiro Nagoshi’s position will be filled by Yukio Sugino , who was also involved in the production of the Yakuza saga, specifically in Yakuza 0 and Yakuza 5.
At the moment SEGA has not given more explanations of this movement nor Nagoshi, a truly peculiar guy, has commented on it. We imagine that it will be a decision made by both sides, or so we hope.
