Rare, the studio behind Sea of Thieves, released a new report claiming that the pirate game reached 11 million unique players in 2020. Additionally, the team stated that the player base is now 50/50 between PC and Xbox.
As we reported, the game hit 10 million players in January 2020. Now that was the total number of players and not the number of unique players.
Sea of Thieves received two big pushes on our rig. The first was its arrival on Xbox Game Pass for PC, while the second took place after the launch on Steam, on June 3, which attracted more than 1 million players.
The studio also announced that the game will stop receiving monthly updates to adopt the season mode and the addition of a battle pass.
In this way, the first season of Sea of Thieves will begin in January and will last for three months. There will also be a new progression system under the battle pass mode, which will grant 100 levels to unlock unique skins and challenges.
While all this content will be free, it will also be possible to pay for access to a premium battle pass to obtain additional rewards as we progress through the level.
