After two years on sale, Red Dead Redemption 2 is among the fifteen best-selling games in history
Since Grand Theft Auto Online found its international success, Rockstar Games basically abandoned any interest in making more single player content. They put all their time and effort into keeping the Online alive as this was a money machine for Take Two Interactive. However, Rockstar shocked the world when they announced that they would be developing a sequel to Red Dead Redemption. And now, Red Dead Redemption 2 has become one of the most successful video games ever.
Gamesindustry-biz has shared that Take Two Interactive had a meeting with the investors of the company. These shareholders were informed that Red Dead Redemption 2 has managed to exceed 34 million units sold worldwide. Yes, 34 million. If they add up all the income from the game – microtransactions, digital content – then RDR 2 has had an increase of 124% compared to 2019. What do these results show? That there are only a dozen titles that have sold more units than the sequel to Red Dead Redemption.
Will you be developing any new games within Rockstar? It is likely, a report from Kotaku revealed that they were already starting to organize a new GTA. Hints of something new having to do with Bully have been emerging, but nothing has been confirmed and there are many doubts regarding its legitimacy.
However, the most important thing to remember is that Rockstar games were developed in a climate of exploitation and abuse. Conditions seem to have improved a bit, but the question remains whether the atmosphere will get worse when the development of his new game gets serious. At the very least, they have taken a striking first step to improve things.
Take-Two games figures:
- GTA V: 135 million units.
- RDR 2: 34 million units.
- NBA 2K21: 5 million units.
- The Outer Worlds: 3 million units.
- Mafia Trilogy / Definitive Edition: 2 million units.
- PGA Tour 2K21: 1 million units.
