The Pokémon Company International today announced the Pokémon Players Cup, a new tournament that will be held online from July 2020 and in which competitors of the Master category (1) will be able to participate. Players in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (JCC), Pokémon Sword, and Pokémon Shield using the Video Game Championship and Pokkén Tournament DX formats will have the opportunity to demonstrate their worth in this official online Play tournament! Pokémon, open to players around the world.
The Pokémon Players Cup will have two phases. In July 2020, players who can compete will do so in a double-elimination round divided by qualifying zones to determine who are the best players in each zone. Those finalists will then face each other in the final phase of the Pokémon Players Cup, in August 2020. In this phase, it will be decided who will become Champion or Champion of the Pokémon Players Cup and will have the cost of transportation and accommodation to attend to a future International Championship as part of the traditional Play! Championship Series Pokemon.
“The Pokémon competition community is very special, and we are looking forward to players connecting virtually with each other in the new Pokémon Players Cup online,” said Colin Palmer, vice president of Marketing for The Pokémon Company International. “After the decision to postpone the traditional Play! Pokémon, we look forward to seeing those intense battles at the Pokémon Players Cup, as well as seeing a taste of our community’s legendary sportsmanship. ”
