Nintendo Switch continues to be the best-selling console in the United States, despite the excellent sales pace of PlayStation 5 . As every month, the NPD group offers us data on the sales of video games, consoles and accessories in the United States during February 2021, which registers an increase of 35% compared to February 2020.
Since the lockdowns in March 2020, we have seen record sales figures around the world, and in the United States in particular. The positive trend has been maintained month after month for the last twelve when we are about to turn one year from the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Feb 2021 US NPD THREAD – February 2021 consumer spending across video game hardware, content and accessories reached a February record $4.6B, 35 percent higher when compared to a year ago. Year-to-date spending totaled $9.3B, 39 percent higher than the same period in 2020. pic.twitter.com/uLO9dphLmE

In that sense, Nintendo Switch was the most benefited, and thanks to a stable stock, it has been the best-selling console for 27 consecutive months . In fact, in terms of income ( dollar sales ) Switch has already overtaken the Nintendo DS as the best-selling console in the history of Nintendo in the US, behind the Wii. In the total ranking of consoles that have collected the most in the US, it is the seventh.
PlayStation 5 is the second best-selling console both in units sold and in revenue (last month, January 2021, it was the one that grossed the most, although it sold fewer units than Switch -as Sony’s is more expensive-). Despite stock issues, the PS5 is currently the fastest-selling console in US history in terms of revenue (during the 4 months it has been on the market).
In terms of games, three new releases from February are placed in the top 6. The first is Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, which is also sweeping other markets, and which is already the second best-selling game in the US of what We’re in 2021. In third place is Persona 5 Strikers, and in sixth place is Little Nightmares 2.
One thing that doesn't get talked about much is that despite current gen installed base being lower than the 7th gen installed base, the average spend of each console user has increased significantly.
Not just on hardware as below, but also across software and services too. https://t.co/DTXEvo6Kfp
