If you grew up with a Nintendo 64, you will remember the myriad rumors of Super Mario 64. One of the biggest rumors was the existence of Luigi in Mario 64. Some said that the secret is to get all the stars to unlock it. However, the truth was that the game did not hide Luigi anywhere. Many tried to search inside the game for more information, but never could find much. Miyamoto commented that they planned to include Luigi, but then they deleted him, and that seemed to be the end of the story.
That was, until last week, that it revealed something gigantic.
You see, the code for countless Nintendo games has been leaked. This includes games from the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, and currently Nintendo 64. One of the most striking leaks was that they found Luigi’s official 3D model. For example, this is how the official head of Luigi was found, which was later “completed” by some fans (all they did was rearm the model). The fascinating thing is that this Luigi model has notable differences from the Mario model.
There are designers and hackers who have already managed to include this model within Super Mario 64. It would be a lie if it were said that this is the only interesting thing about the leak. Star Fox characters, the original recording of “Do a barrel roll”, Pokemon from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and much, much more have also been leaked.
