One of the most interesting and surprising announcements from the recent Pokémon Presents program in New Pokémon Snap, a rather self-describing name: it is a sequel to the beloved namesake Nintendo 64 game that focused not on capturing pocket monsters, but on photographing them.
For now, there aren’t many details about it – we know it’s in development and that the team behind the show is “working hard” on it, but its launch window is still a mystery. We will have to settle for the game’s announcement trailer, which contains gameplay material, to speculate on its mechanics. Considering that the Nintendo Switch does have a gallery app, hopefully, this one is strongly tied to New Pokémon Snap.
The idea of making another Pokémon Snap has been circulating among fans for years, although there is also another important game on the wish list that has not been fulfilled today: the remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, the fourth generation games that cause more nostalgia with each passing day. If you were looking forward to them, take note: on June 24 we will have a new Pokémon Presents where we will see a “great project”.
We cannot rule out that this is a completely different game, but it certainly seems likely that it is at least linked to core RPGs. Until then, there is time to check out other new games like Pokémon Smile, Pokémon Cafe Mix or what’s new for Pokémon GO and Pokémon Sword / Shield.
