The premiere of the Monster Hunter film was involved in controversy after a Western joke, specifically used in the United States, ignited the public’s spirits in China, a country whose authorities did not take long to take action on the matter and decided to ban the film. Unfortunately, this was not limited to the cinematic realm, as the reactions did not take long to go against Monster Hunter World.
After the scandal broke out in China over the Monster Hunter movie, Monster Hunter World began to suffer attacks from a sector of the public, which began bombarding the version of the game on Steam with negatives, causing recent activity in the section of Game reviews and ratings. Although Valve’s platform put in place a review system for these types of cases, which means that most of these qualifications, if not all, will not be taken into account, the reality is that it is a hard blow for the team in charge of the film and for Capcom.
In the beginning, the film may consider the Chinese market lost, the most important in the world and more so in this era of a pandemic where the cinema goes through a critical moment before the closing of theaters, the delays of the most important premieres and the bet for the simultaneous premiere through streaming services. Then, as for the IP, it is in the hands of Capcom, since Monster Hunter World, its most successful game, could face an adverse environment before the Chinese public.
So far, it is not known what measures will be taken in this regard or if it is possible that the Monster Hunter movie has a chance.
