The revelation of Xbox Game Studios and the surprise acquisition of ZeniMax and Bethesda only raised a great cloud of rumors and speculation about the next purchase movements on the part of Microsoft’s games division. One of them focused on Poland and although the most daring thought it could be CD Projekt, soon the attention was focused on Techland, creators of Dying Light, but the same Polish study denied that there were talks and everything was silent, until now that a new rumor has gained momentum.
IS TECHLAND ON MICROSOFT’S RADAR AGAIN?
Although Techland made it clear long ago that it was not for sale, that it did not negotiate with Microsoft and that it was maintained as an independent study, the truth is that a $ 7000 million hit like the one that Microsoft gave to buy Bethesda could twist the will of anyone. In that sense, 2021 has started with high expectations about the possible purchases that the North American company could make and once again the attention is focused on Techland, responsible for the zombie action and survival game, Dying Light .
According to Insider Jeremy Penter, Microsoft is close to completing one more purchase that will be talked about in 2021 on Xbox Game Studios, although he did not dare to reveal the study in question. However, another insider, Nick Baker, pointed out that the studio in question is Techland and that this would also go in the direction of Dying Light 2 exclusivity .
So the studio and game ACG was referring to…I did some digging and asked around. I’m fairly certain he’s talking about Techland and Dying Light 2

Obviously this type of news should be taken with a grain of salt, as there is nothing official. However, Nick Baker has been right recently as he was the one who leaked that The Initiative project was Perfect Dark and also revealed the purchase of Gearbox by Embracer Group, so he could be right about the possible new relationship between Xbox Game Studios and Techland.
Although it is not known what will happen in 2021 with Microsoft’s purchases, the truth is that the industry is moving and the emergence of Embracer Group , as well as the advance of Tencent , seem to account for a competitive situation in which large companies they will seek to have as many studios and IPs as possible, perhaps anticipating a future in which game distribution is different and they have the power to negotiate and sign exclusive agreements with platforms or services.
What’s your opinion about it? Do you see Techland and Dying Light 2 as Xbox exclusives?
