It was in a post on the personal blog of the well-known insider Zippo, where it is said that the Spanish studio MercurySteam would be working on a Metroid 2D, which would already be ready to be announced by Nintendo in the near future.
The development of this project appears to be complete and Nintendo is expected to show it off during this year’s E3, which will be held from June 12-15, and will be presented on the occasion of Metroid’s 35th anniversary (August 6). of this year).
According to the rumor, the 2D Metroid will run at 60 fps on the Switch and Nintendo is very happy with the end result, to such an extent that the franchise director himself, Yoshio Sakamoto, gave his thumbs up to the title.
Let’s remember that it would not be the first time that MercurySteam has worked on the saga, since in 2017 it released Metroid: Samus Returns, the long-awaited remake of the second game in the franchise.
However, and given this possible announcement, it will also be necessary to know what will happen with Metroid Prime 4, so we will have to wait for an official announcement from Nintendo.
