The past week has been most busy for Rockstar and Grand Theft Auto V. The open-world game was free at the Epic Games Store as its deal of the week, with the subsequent crash of the store’s servers. And then over the weekend, Rockstar Games’ own servers were saturated. But with the arrival of numerous players to GTA Online on PC, something that many others feared has also happened: the number of hackers has exploded in the game.
As the Reddit forums show, the online mode of GTA V on PC has been invaded by a large number of players who use mods and exploits to make life impossible for other users. There are cases in which these individuals are dedicated to locking the players in cages, others in which they create giant robots made with tanks and combat aircraft, and some in which they simply dedicate themselves to summoning vehicles in large numbers to hinder to others or to “crasher” the server, as they claim in Kotaku.
With the free game during these dates, there are those who affirm that the so-called “modders” of GTA Online are taking advantage to carry out their activities with impunity before the possibility of creating new accounts at no additional cost. Back on Reddit, it is very easy to find comments from users unhappy with the situation, like this one from Tomas100024 that asks “Will GTA Online be back to normal again? There are like 2 or 3 modders in each game, I’m sick of it .”
The worst thing is that some of the hacks introduced by these players also extend to the story mode of the game if you exit directly from your session, as this other Reddit user demonstrates. We will see if Rockstar takes action on the matter and if these practices remit a little after next Thursday. Until then, be careful in online, and if you have not yet tried the game (which is still free), here is the analysis of GTA V.
