Kaspersky today released Kaspersky Security Cloud Gamer Edition , a special version of the flagship solution, focused on protecting gamers from online threats, without compromising the gaming experience. With features like HDD health monitoring, anti-phishing technologies, built-in VPN, password manager, and Account Check, the new solution is specifically tailored to the needs of gamers .
A recent report by Kaspersky revealed that accounts on various online gaming platforms are targeted by cybercriminals, who aim to monetize stolen login details and resell valuable gaming items on the gray market. According to the company report, more than 58,000 attacks were recorded using fake Steam (online gaming platform) websites during the first 9 months of 2019; this number more than doubled in the second half, reaching 131,000 at the time of analysis.
Additionally, many of the attacks targeting players are often evasive, making it difficult for the victim to detect that their account or device has been compromised until it is too late. Among the most common infection methods are malware that masquerades as game titles, crack files (games that have been reverse-engineered for use without a license), or cheats (offering advantageous features), as well as the famous phishing messages, whose purpose is to collect the credentials of online accounts.
Providing maximum protection against these and other types of threats, Kaspersky Security Cloud Gamer Edition offers the industry’s most proven antimalware and antiphishing technologies along with a robust range of features for online account protection. For example, Kaspersky Password Management allows users to create unique and secure passwords while also acting as a vault where they can be safely stored. Similarly, the Account Check feature issues alert when personal information associated with an online account is publicly available, allowing players to react quickly and keep their data safe. These features are extremely important to gamers, as most modern games and services require online account creation.
The minimal impact on gaming performance is another great benefit of Kaspersky Security Cloud Gamer Edition. The “Gaming Mode” function freezes routine tasks such as updates and notifications, allowing machine resources, such as processing speed, RAM, etc., to be allocated to the game. In recent tests, the impact on the performance of frames per second (FPS for its acronym in English) was verified between 0% to 5.96%, variations that occur even when the test is run multiple times without the presence of a security program. In fact, in the latest Break the Record: Live, a player broke the world record for Speedrunning in Doom Eternal using a Kaspersky product.
Another function that contributes to game continuity is hard disk health monitoring. This feature alerts the user whenever there is a risk of the hard drive crashing, which can cause irreparable loss of all stored data. This feature is important as multiple players save their game progress to a hard drive, not to mention their mods (custom games) and other installed apps. In addition, Kaspersky Security Cloud Gamer Edition includes a VPN of up to 200 MB of data traffic per day, per device, which can be expanded to 300 MB when linked to the My Kaspersky account.
“Kaspersky Security Cloud Gamer Edition was developed with the specific needs of gamers in mind: robust protection and maximum performance. The age-old myth that good security protection is out of reach and that it affects game performance has led many gamers to put their data and digital assets at risk. With this new offering, our goal is to provide players with solid protection that allows them to focus on their game tactic to beat their opponents, ” said Fabiano Tricarico, director of retail sales for Latin America at Kaspersky.
Kaspersky Security Cloud Gamer Edition is now available via electronic download (ESD) and will be available in retail stores at the end of October, with a suggested cost of $ 29.90 USD.
