An AMD Radeon GPU is required to play Cyberpunk 2077 on Linux.

The long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 went on sale and managed to set the record from day one. Surprisingly, CD Projekt RED’s new game will now be playable via Steam Play on Linux operating systems.

This support was made possible through Steam Proton, which allows Windows-based games to run on Linux. Linux publication Phoronix says the Proton 5.13-4 update was specially made for Cyberpunk 2077 support.

However, there is an important point. To play the game, an AMD Radeon graphics card, a Steam copy of the game and Mesa 20.1 (an open-source application for APIs such as OpenCL and Vulkan) are required.

It’s surprising to see that NVIDIA branded graphics cards are not currently supported. The reason for this is not yet known, but this may soon change. Steam’s Proton game library continues to expand, and the good news is coming for the Linux gaming community.
