It was already clear that part of Sony’s strategy with PlayStation 5 is to feed its catalog with temporary exclusives. As you can imagine, the company prefers to avoid mentioning that these games could be on other consoles, so sometimes these issues are not entirely clear. Luckily, we already have a better idea of what will happen to Final Fantasy XVI.
When Sony announced Final Fantasy XVI in September of the year, it revealed it as an exclusive for PlayStation 5 (although it was first said that it would also arrive on PC). At the time it was not specified if it was a temporary exclusivity or if PlayStation 5 would be the only place to play it.
Now, the official site of PlayStation 5 has been updated to show what are some of the games with temporary exclusivity on consoles. Among them are Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo, Bethesda titles that will soon arrive on PC. What is striking is that the list also includes Final Fantasy XVI and Forspoken (formerly known as Project Athia), games that Square Enix is preparing for PlayStation.
FINAL FANTASY XVI ON XBOX? IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE
With this it is clear that Final Fantasy XVI is a temporary exclusive. This opens the door for us to see it on PC and Xbox Series X | S some time after its release.
The bad news is that there is still no indicator of when we can expect to see this version, if it arrives at all. However, Square Enix and Xbox have a good relationship and several games in the series are available on Xbox. For this reason, it seems a matter of time before its arrival at the Microsoft console is announced.
