Video games usually have a date or period when their sales drop to the point of being insignificant. For example, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate came out five years ago and has sold just over four million. However, when is the last time you heard about Syndicate? The title came out, sold and disappeared from the map because this is what usually happens. That’s why it’s so surprising that a game like Grand Theft Auto V can sell and sell after so long. This game has so far sold 130 million units.

Take-Two Interactive shared in its financial results that GTA V has sold 130 million units. In November 2019, Grand Theft Auto V had sold 115, which means that this title has sold fifteen million copies in six months. To compare to its other titles, Red Dead Redemption 2 sold 31 million units and Borderlands 3 sold 10 million. Consistently, the fifth installment of GTA is the best-selling game of the past decade in the United States. Despite having given it away for a week, this one is unstoppable.
Seven years ago, Grand Theft Auto V launched for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. One year later, the game became available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. And, in 2015, it was finally made available on PC. Now, this is available on Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Now. What motivates so many sales? Partly it is that the Bethesda Open Worlds are gigantic and acclaimed. However, there is no denying the impact that GTA Online has had for the franchise. They have turned it into a machine of content and things to do.

Can you imagine how much GTA V would sell on the Nintendo Switch?
