In recent times, Stadia has expanded its catalog with great third-party titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Madden NFL 21.
Now the company has announced that it is closing its own video game studio to focus on third-party titles.
The announcement was made by Phil Harrison, Vice President and CEO of Stadia, who posted the following in The Keyword :
As we are focused on building on proven Stadia technology, as well as deepening our business partnerships, we have decided that we will no longer invest in bringing exclusive content from our SG&E internal development team, beyond the games planned in the short term.
Despite the promise that Google will continue to invest in Stadia and third-party titles, it’s a shame the study is being closed. Most of the team members will move on to other roles.
Decisions like this make it difficult to trust Google’s commitment to Stadia, especially considering that the search giant has a long history of prematurely closing products.
