Social networks accompany us on a daily basis and also evolve improving their interfaces and functionalities. The integration of GIFs across all platforms has been a before and after in the way that users communicate. Currently, there is no social network that does not allow the incorporation of GIFs. In addition, GIPHY is one of the largest databases where you can find all kinds of GIFs and is integrated into the main social networks of the moment. A few hours ago Facebook announced the purchase of GIPHY for a value of 400 million whose main objective was to integrate its applications, especially on Instagram.
The integration of GIPHY under its API will remain intact
GIPHY was created in 2013 with one simple goal in mind: to make communication more fun. Seven years and several billion GIFs later, the scope of our mission grows, but the goal remains the same. We’ve always wanted the way you express yourself to be more fun, more exciting … and maybe a little bit weirder.
GIPHY is one of the largest GIF databases in the world. Until now we could find them in the animated stickers of Instagram Stories or in the search for GIFs in the direct messages of Instagram. However, from now on we may meet him more often because Facebook has bought the company for a value of $ 400 million. From the press release of the company itself, they assure that the successes they have already had with Facebook are key to be sure that the new objectives will be ambitious.
From GIPHY they assure that the API that allows using their database in external applications will remain intact. The purchase by Facebook is not going to mean the privatization of the service or closure of it. The team assures that it will continue working so that the GIFs collected in its database “continue to be available to achieve a broader ecosystem”.
Beyond these statements, Facebook integrates the entire GIPHY team under part of the Instagram team. This was stated by the vice president of Facebook products in a statement, where he also ensures that 50% of GIPHY traffic was obtained from Facebook apps :
Many people in our community already know and love GIPHY. In fact, 50% of GIPHY’s traffic comes from Facebook’s family of apps, half of that just from Instagram.
