Star Wars is one of the most popular franchises in the entertainment world. So it won’t surprise you to learn that the series’ exclusivity deal with EA has been very profitable. In fact, it has generated billions for the distributor.
Recently, Electronic Arts had a presentation with investors, in which there was a question and answer section. There Mike Hickey, an analyst at The Benchmark Company, asked about the Star Wars license and the end of its exclusivity with EA.
Given this, Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA, responded that they should expect them to continue investing in Star Wars products. This is because since they signed exclusivity with Disney in 2012, this brand has left them $ 3000 million in net income.
“You have to hope that we continue to invest in our relationship with Star Wars. It has been very profitable up to this point, over $ 3000 million in net income and we are excited about what we will be able to do in the future, ”was Wilson’s response.
Without a doubt, this is good news for all investors and directors of Electronic Arts. We say so since after the Battlefront II fiasco they managed to set course and take advantage of this license in a positive way. See if this becomes that easy once you have competition in the world of Star Wars games.
MORE COMPANIES WILL MAKE STAR WARS GAMES
In case you don’t know, the creation of Lucasfilm Games was announced a few weeks ago. It is a division that will supervise different projects related to franchises that are owned by this brand.
The interesting thing is that Lucasfilm Games will work with different distributors for the development of Star Wars releases thanks to the fact that the exclusivity with EA is about to end. Among the companies that will work with the license is Ubisoft.
