When Bungie ended its commercial agreement with Activision regarding the Destiny brand, many assumed that the British studio would settle Destiny 2 as soon as possible to prioritize the development of a third party. ¨ Not only was it not like that, but it also presented a complete roadmap with content updates that would last from two to three years. In this way, Bungie confirms, Destiny 3 would not arrive until 2024 , at the very least.
In an interview with the design director Jacon Benton with the Japanese portal 4Gamer, Benton assures that they never had plans to leave Destiny 2 behind. The creative remembers that there are still two more confirmed expansions for Destiny 2, The Witch Queen and Lightfall, and anticipates that surely they need another additional chapter to finish telling the story that the team wants to tell.
Bungie have "no plans" to make Destiny 3 before at least 2026. New stories & expansions – including a planned "Lightfall" sequel – will all be released in #Destiny2

Considering that The Witch Queen would be released in 2022 and it takes between a year or a year and a half to launch the next one, with current plans, Destiny 3 would not arrive before 2024. If, as Benton says, there is still one more chapter after Lightfall, it could be delayed until 2026.
You also have to take into account the launch of that ** new and mysterious IP that Bungie would be working on and that might come out before the Destiny 2 expansions are even finished. That launch, more if it is another game of the game as a service style, could further delay the future of the Destiny saga.
