Have no doubt that Cyberpunk 2077 is a commercial success: the game sold millions before knowing its true quality
Cyberpunk 2077’s hype and marketing campaign seemed to be made of titanium. He survived criticism from CD Projekt Red workers themselves. He also survived articles about his appalling working conditions. In addition, he managed to survive without many problems his constant delays and down-grades in terms of the length and complexity of the game. None of that has been able to stop a game that managed to connect with its audience in a very, very intense way. In this way, Cyberpunk has sold 8 million units. No, not at your launch, before you launch.
On Cyberpunk’s Twitter account, it was revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 had managed to sell a legendary number of units without even being officially available to play. Just the “pre-sale” button was enough to motivate more people than live in a dozen European countries combined. The Twitter account commented:
We are truly humbled that so many of you trusted us and decided to support #Cyberpunk2077 before the release! Even 8 million thank yous isn’t enough! The journey has just begun and we are hard at work on the upcoming fixes and updates to the game. See you in Night City!
It is not known when this success will stop or what will be its impact on the culture of video games. A title like Breath of the Wild managed to sell more than 15 million units and no one would deny that it has become one of the most discussed games of the current generation. On the other hand, Red Dead Redemption 2 had impressive sales and excellent reviews. However, who is still talking about the narrative and acclaim for this title? We will see in which group Cyberpunk 2077 ends up falling.
