After his work on The Witcher series, the Polish studio CD Projekt RED has been widely recognized in the video game industry to such an extent that the expectation for its next project, Cyberpunk 2077, is extremely high and is even expected to be one of the generation games. So it looks like the game will be a commercial success, as it is not yet available and is already generating very high revenues for the company.
CD Projekt RED held the fiscal third-quarter investor meeting (transcribed by Seeking Alpha and via GamesIndustry.biz ) and discussed how well the game is being received ahead of its launch. The company’s CFO Piotr Nielubowicz revealed that the number of pre-orders is “visibly higher” than the pre-orders of any The Witcher title.
The executive did not share the exact figures, but mentioned that the deferred earnings seen in the third quarter are proof of this. According to Nielubowicz, in this period the company had an increase of zł77.7 PLN (about $ 20.7 million), “the largest increase in deferred earnings” in the history of the company.
“All profits that we generate for Cyberpunk are not directly recorded in our income statement. They are all presented on our balance sheet as deferred earnings and we will show them after the game is launched, ”the company commented.
CD PROJEKT RED FORECASTS BIG DIGITAL GAINS
Another important detail at the meeting is that CD Projekt RED expects that at least 50% of Cyberpunk 2077 profits will be generated digitally. According to Nielubowicz, the study predicts that from the beginning more than half of the profits will come from digital sales and that as the months go by, the trend will be even more marked.
“In Witcher 3, it’s [the] vast majority. And in Witcher 2 and 1 it is, let’s say 99% of the profits we generate are digital. So this is the only direction we can hope for in the short and long term, ”Niebulowicz commented.
And you, in what way will you contribute to the profits of Cyberpunk 2077 , buying the game in digital or physical format? Tell us in the comments.
CD Projekt RED’s forecasts make sense when you consider that Cyberpunk 2077 will not only be available in physical and digital format, but there will also be a lot of DLC that can only be achieved digitally, thus increasing profits in this format. We remind you that Cyberpunk 2077 will also have a multiplayer, which could have cosmetic DLC, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be available starting December 10 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google STADIA. The title will also come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S and players will be able to upgrade to its last-generation version at no additional charge.
