The company claims this quality standard is “the main reason” the game has been postponed.
The Cyberpunk 2077 delay has been, without a doubt, the most talked-about news of the week. A delay that, this time, occurs with the Gold version of the game already ready for copying and distribution, since the studio requires more time to finalize the launch patch. On this, CD Projekt RED commented during the last meeting with the shareholders that one of the main reasons has been the need to polish the game more on current consoles. But they also mention another very interesting reason.
During the conference, Adam Kicinski was asked by an investor about the expected quality of the title and his target regarding ratings among critics, after the delays in finishing polishing it. Given this, the president bounced the question to Michal Nowakowski, vice president of business development, who claims that the delay was due, in part, to wanting Cyberpunk 2077 to be a game over 90 on Metacritic, and this time extra will help them get a product that lives up to the rating.
“As far as Metacritic is concerned, we are continually trying to have a +90 game, so nothing has changed here; this continues to be our goal, and as Adam mentioned, this is actually the main reason we have postponed the release. “says Michal. “We want to give the game an extra polish; we’d rather be a bit embarrassed now, in front of all of you [investors] than embarrassed in front of the players when the game is released.”
As the company knows, first impressions are everything at a premiere, and these additional weeks point to being key to finishing fine-tuning the performance of Cyberpunk 2077. We remind you that this month a new Night City Wire has been offered with videos focused on the vehicles and the character’s fashion.
