Command & Conquer Remastered Collection Lead Producer Jim Vessella has released a community update on Reddit describing the video game’s commitment to the modder scene. EA will release TiberianDawn.dll and RedAlert.dll and their respective source codes under the GPL version 3.0 license, making Command & Conquer one of the first RTS franchises to provide its source code to users.

EA and the C&C community have worked for hand in hand to ensure the compatibility of the game with existing mods. For this reason, open-source archives will give these aspiring modders the opportunity to create custom maps, units, art, and alter video game logic in the classic Command & Conquer experience. To incite this community of modders, the developers of Petroglyph created a new modified unit that players will be able to use that answers the question: “What would the Brotherhood of Nod do if they captured the Mammoth tank?” And the result has been the creation of the Nuclear Missile Tank, a tank whose turret was replaced by a giant artillery cannon to fire tactical bombs.
Command & Conquer Remastered Collection will be available on PC next June 5 through Origin and Steam. The collection made up of Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn, Command & Conquer: Red Alert and its three expansion pack Covert Operations, Counterstrike and The Aftermath is a project developed between EA, some of the original members of the Westwood Studios team in Petroglyph and Lemon Sky Studios.
