Dead Island 2 has had a very chaotic period of development, perhaps one of the most overtly chaotic in recent years. After the success of the first installment, Techland was going to develop the second installment, but they decided to focus on their own brand (Dying Light). Not having this developer, Deep Silver hired Yager Development to make this long-awaited sequel. Yager became known for her work on the excellent Spec Ops: The Line. However, they were forced to abandon their development due to a lack of coordination.

However, in some strange way, a version of Dead Island 2 has been leaked. This is a demo worked by Yager Development before leaving the project. Several users of Twitter have been sharing pictures of this version of the game. You can admire various features that could be seen in the initial trailer. The photographs look old as if it were an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game. It makes sense, considering that its development stalled during the first years of the eighth generation.

What is the current status of Dead Island 2? In 2016, Sumo Digital became the next studio to lead its development, but they didn’t show any trailer. In 2017 Deep Silver reminded the world that DI 2 existed and they made a similar statement in 2018. Then, to no one’s surprise, Sumo abandoned its development in 2019 and has been replaced with Dambuster Studios. Dambuster is a study inside Deep Silver. After so long, it’s hard to tell if this game will actually exist one day.
If Dead Island 2 ever does exist, they can look forward to it for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
