One of the video games that will come out soon that generates the most curiosity is Biomutant. The title of Experiment101 has had a development marked by silence, to the point that it was thought that the project was canceled. The developers themselves told us that they really didn’t even have time to tell what they were doing and that’s why there was no news.
But, luckily, we recently learned the release date of the video game edited by THQ Nordic: Biomutant will arrive on May 25 on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Now, thanks to an IGN interview with studio head Stefan Ljungqvist, we know a few more details of what development has entailed and what we can expect from this open-world action game .
Biomutant, no errors
The study is made up of 20 people, something we already knew about, but obviously that slows down development. “It’s a great game, a great bite for 20 people to chew on,” said Ljungqvist. The map is 8 square kilometers, but it is full of content and, in addition, the character can mutate in new forms to overcome obstacles.
Since the studio has taken its game seriously, they have not wanted to release a buggy title on the market, and precisely the delay is mainly due to that, because they are polishing Biomutant, something that is appreciated. “It has been a lot of work for the testers, because it is not easy to find the bugs in an open world game. Once found, we have to fix them, and that presents an additional challenge for us, being a small team,” he has explained Ljungqvist.
The creative is aware that there will be failures, but the studio is doing everything possible to ensure that the experience is very good, without major errors. “Any game comes out with little bugs, but I’m talking bugs that are really disruptive to the experience of the game. We don’t want to take it out with that. I think that’s what made us wait until we were ready to do it,” he insisted.
The Aura system
The development of the video game has been extended because the team has been introducing improvements to its initial plan , such as many more texts. “If you look at the script, at the end of 2019 I think it had about 80-85,000 words. Practically a novel … but in the final game, it is closer to 250,000 words, ” said the head of Experiment101.
The good thing about that pampering by the script is that we can expect great interactions with the NPCs, since the game will have the Aura system, which will act as a kind of karma and will make the characters talk to us in one way or another according to our behavior. In addition, the game will be released in 13 languages, 10 of them fully dubbed, something that has also taken time.
And the PS5 and Xbox Series version?
The development has been long, but Ljungqvist has made it clear that THQ Nordic has always supported the studio and understood their philosophy that it will be “ready when it is ready”. The editor has respected their rest periods and has complied with the agreement. “The most important thing is to get paid, which is not common in our industry,” commented the head of the study.
But no trace of the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. “Will you be able to play it on those consoles? Sure. We’ll see how what will happen progresses, but you will definitely be able to play it on those consoles,” he said. Of course, for the moment the game will only be released for PS4, Xbox One and PC, and we will have to wait.
“When we develop the game, we lead the past generation. And if you look at it from a development perspective, that’s really important because it’s easier to scale than de-escalate. For us as a team, we would like as many players as possible to be able to play. “Ljungqvist commented.
