Mohammed bin Salman, known for ordering the murder of a journalist, bought part of the company that made Metal Slug
SNK was a hit developer during the 1990s, although now its production and release of titles have lost much steam. Owners of King of Fighters, Art of Fighting, and Metal Slug, is a brand with a lot of weight for a specific group of people. And there are many who dream of the idea that this brand will come back strong and conquer the world again. Apparently one of these individuals is Mohammed bin Salman, the future king of Saudi Arabia. It has made an impressive purchase of 33% of its shares.
Nintendo Life reports that a curious company has bought 33.3% of SNK’s shares. Its name is Electronic Gaming Development Company and it was quickly discovered that this company was founded by MBS. Although at the beginning it was thought that the purchase had been total, what the Arabs have done has been to become the largest shareholder in the company. Interestingly, the same company was acquired by Chinese investors five years ago, so perhaps that creates some kind of conflict within SNK’s offices. In this way, the creators of Metal Slug have a new teacher.
Mohammed bin Salman has become popular worldwide for pushing for “progressive” changes such as allowing women to own and drive cars. However, torture and murder of people are constant in Saudi Arabia. Which, added to his murder of an American journalist and his approval of the genocide being carried out by his army in Yemen, should raise doubts for anyone.
SNK is currently enjoying a new wave of popularity thanks to the success of the new Samurai Showdown. Will it be enough to start a new period for the company? We will see.
