Among Us was released in 2018, but it became the game of the moment a few months ago, the game went viral among gamers and also among those who are not very interested in games. Also, it beat games like Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout and Party Animals.
Its success is so great that its sequel was canceled so that developers could focus on the current version. Also, it is common to see famous people, who are not gamers, streaming the game.
And even with all this success, InnerSloth, the developer of Among Us, never translated it into Chinese or officially released it in that country. Because of this, the game was not very successful in the most populous country in the world.
Werewolf Among Us the Chinese copy
However, just over two weeks ago, the little-known Chinese company Shenzhen Youliang Technology launched Werewolf Among Us in China which is basically a copy of Among Us.
The main difference between Among Us and Werewolf Among Us is that the original version takes place in a spaceship, while the copy is set in a medieval castle. The maps and mechanics of both games are almost the same.
The success of the copy of Among Us was immediate and it quickly became the most downloaded application in the Chinese Apple Store, reaching the mark of more than 500 thousand downloads in a few days. Beating titles such as Arena of Valor and Peacekeeper Elite, both belonging to the Chinese giant Tencent.
Finally, this explosion of Werewolf Among Us serves as a lesson for game developers, because even though China is an extremely profitable market, for a game to be successful in the country, it needs to be translated into Chinese and have servers in that country.
For those interested in playing, Among Us, the original version, is available on Steam and is free on the Play Store and Apple Store.
