Microsoft presented in October last year it’s Surface Duo double-screen smartphone, which is supposed to go on sale this Christmas.
The presentation of the smartphone left us with more questions than certainties since the company did not reveal the technical specifications of the device.
Now, according to a Windows Central leak, the Surface Duo will carry a Snapdragon 855 chip, 6GB RAM, and 64 or 256 GB storage options. These specifications do not correspond at all with a high-end smartphone from the end of 2020.
The Snapdragon 855 chip was the most powerful of last year but, by the time the Surface Duo goes on sale, the Snapdragon 875 will probably have been announced. Nor are its 6GB of RAM to fire rockets, even more so for a device with a double screen that invites multitasking.
In the photographic section, it will have a single 11MP camera with f / 2.0 aperture, which will act as both a front and rear camera. At this time it is rare that a smartphone has a single camera, so it will be difficult to compete against other high-end smartphones.
Surface Duo will feature two 5.6 ″ AMOLED panels joined by a hinge that will rotate 360 degrees. Each half will offer a 4: 3 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1800 × 1350 pixels, which translates to a pixel density of 401 dpi.
But without a doubt what you liked least is knowing that it would have a battery of only 3,460 mAh, which seems quite small for a device that has two AMOLED panels and a chip that consumes a lot of energy.
Surprisingly, there is no support for NFC or 5G either. Surface Duo will run Android 10 with a custom layer of software.
All Microsoft apps pre-installed on Surface Duo will support dual display and will have the ability to drag and drop between different apps when needed. Not all third-party apps on Android will support this functionality, as it will be up to the developers to implement those capabilities.
