Electronics giant Samsung will develop folding screens for rivals Google, Oppo and Xiaomi.
According to The Elec ‘s report, vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi and Google were planning to launch a foldable phone. A newly published report confirms the old one again. The new report does not mention vivo, but states that Samsung has developed folding screens for Oppo, Xiaomi and Google. The report reveals some details about each manufacturer’s folding screen and its dimensions.
If we start with Oppo; The screen in question is said to open from top to bottom, which means the device will have a clamshell form factor. The outer screen will be between 1.5 and 2 inches, so we think the screen will be tall when turned on. Oppo will work with Samsung, BOE and Visionox for a 7.7-inch out-folding prototype, while the Chinese manufacturer will work exclusively with Samsung for this device.
Xiaomi, on the other hand, switches from a screen that folds out to a screen that folds in. The 7.92-inch screen in its prototype was developed by Visionox, but for this screen – it could be 8.22 inches – it will work in partnership with Xiaomi, Samsung and CSOT. Note that CSOT and BOE have developed the 2019 Motorola Razr ‘s folding screen. Xiaomi’s folding device will apparently have a 6.38-inch external display. Images of Xiaomi’s device were leaked last month.
Finally, although not much information is given about Google’s device, the report stated that Samsung is developing an OLED display for Google. Such a screen measures “about 7.6 inches in size”.
It’s interesting that manufacturers have shown so much interest in foldable devices, even though it’s just rumors and reports for now. Samsung is currently holding the crown when it comes to foldable phones. The company is expected to introduce three new foldable products this year, including the lower-cost Z Flip model.
