Samsung Display begins mass production of the world’s first 90Hz OLED panel for laptops.
Samsung Display, the display manufacturing arm of Samsung Electronics, announced that it will begin mass production of the world’s first 90Hz OLED panel from March this year. The South Korean company claims that this display with a 90 Hz refresh rate will have the same performance as 120 Hz LCD screens. Numerous smartphones have already been launched with 90Hz refresh rate displays. Now, several manufacturers are expected to launch laptops and notebooks with 90Hz OLED displays later this year.
In a press release, Samsung Display Chief Executive Officer Joo Sun Choi says the company will initially produce massive quantities of 14-inch, 90Hz OLED displays for laptops and notebooks. Most laptops are currently shipping with displays with 60Hz refresh rate. In this respect, OLED panels to be produced by Samsung will be a first in this sector. In another statement, it was stated that “OLED display panels can best meet different consumer needs for laptops used in teleworking, distance education, video streaming and games”.
Samsung Display claims that consumers believe they will want to quickly switch to OLED displays that offer 90Hz refresh rate because these displays will deliver smoother-looking visuals. This is because the new display panels have a 90Hz refresh rate. For this reason, OLED displays with high refresh rates will provide a more vivid game and movie viewing experience. However, the company also states that users will need a high-spec graphics card to power the new OLED displays with these refresh rates.
Finally, it should be noted that there is no information yet on when the official announcement of the new OLED panels, which are claimed to be released in March.
