A few days ago, that the YouTuber Unbox Therapy himself wanted to try it first hand, and was able to see how the terminal was able to see the components that are hidden inside the Apple TV, from some remote controls, or from the Pro control of the Nintendo Switch, that the smartphone’s color filter camera was able to see through thin layers of plastic.
This discovery raised some privacy concerns, as the camera is also able to “see” through certain types of clothing.
OnePlus has announced on Weibo that it will release a HydrogenOS update for the OnePlus 8 Pro that will disable the color filter camera. This update is expected to arrive in a week.
Although OnePlus has yet to officially confirm this, a similar OxygenOS update for the OnePlus 8 Pro global variant can be expected before the end of this month.
The camera with color filter will be reactivated with a future update when OnePlus adjusts it to avoid the problem of the so-called “X-rays”.
Most OnePlus 8 Pro users probably won’t miss the color-filtered camera as it uses a 5MP sensor and doesn’t add much from a photographic point of view. The camera’s filter lens processes light differently than the other three sensors on the OnePlus 8 Pro, generating images with a “unique color tone.”
