In a recent interview with the CEO of OnePlus, Pete Lau, the executive has covered a number of topics, although probably the most interesting has to do with the possible OnePlus smartwatch.
According to Lau, OnePlus is working on the watch, although it has not given details about what it will offer and when it will be released.
We’ve been hearing about a possible OnePlus smartwatch for some time, but the company had always denied it. Recently, the OnePlus account on Twitter was sending messages that suggest that there is a watch on the way.
In the interview, Lau talks more specifically about WearOS:
WearOS definitely has room for improvement. What we are trying to do is work with Google to try to improve the connectivity between the Wea OS ecosystem, Android TV and Android smartphones to create this capability for better interoperability of devices across ecosystems.
This has been something that has been viewed very positively from Google’s side as well, so this is the direction that we are trying to develop, but we have no more that we can share at the moment.
WearOS officially came out in 2014 under the name Android Wear. Wearables are not an easy market as it is dominated by companies like Fitbit and Apple. Still, there is room for a good WearOS watch, so we are hopeful that the wait for the OnePlus Watch, or whatever it is called, was worth it.
